Revlon Nail Art Stencils: Stars

Today I have for you Revlon's Stars stencils! This time, I decided to use some shades from Orly's Cool Romance collection, which just came in the mail from HauteLook. I should probably just get rid of the app on my phone to prevent impulse buys like that one. After testing out the stencils a couple of times, the the result was certainly not what I had expected.

For my base layer, I used Orly's Artificial Sweetener and the Stars are done with Orly's Steel Your Heart.
I found that positioning the stars in a slight diagonal like I did in the photo below, looked the best. One of the downfalls with this particular stencil is that the star points do not turn out consistent, especially for the smaller star. When I look at the stencil itself, the star points all appear nice and even, but once I used it and peeled it away, I had points that are shorter or thicker.

I would have to say that this stencil didn't impress me as much as the bow stencil did. Although the outcome was admittedly cute, I had expected a sharper looking stars than what I ended up with.

If you want to give this stencil a go yourself, it will only cost you about $5. I purchased mine at my local Walgreens.

Revlon Nail Art Stencils: Bows

Is it just me or does it seem like new collections are being released more frequently this fall. Wandering through my Walgreens to pick up some cold remedies and what not, I came across Revlon's Sweetly Sinister nail art display. It's obviously gearing towards Halloween, but some of the stencils aren't Halloween specific.

Revlon Contour Shadow Brush

I suppose I had Revlon on  the mind last weekend since I had planned to post this then too, but never got around to it. I have to say that I'm pretty adaptable when it comes to eye shadow brushes and I'm not loyal to any one brand. Depending on how I feel while shopping I'll either splurge on a high end brush or look to something more affordable. The one sort of brush I had difficulty with was a contouring eye shadow brush. I felt like Goldilocks with the issues I had. One would be too small, another too big, or it would be too stiff, etc. Since then, I've found the Revlon Contour Shadow Brush.

The packaging says that this is made with "all-natural hair," which is hardly specific and the only thing I can really say is that this is not a synthetic brush. The bristles are formed in a rounded shape with a gently tapered tip. This really helps in getting the color into the crease without creating a very harsh line in the area just above the crease. The brush is soft and flexible and I've had no problems with shedding or bleeding when I've washed it. The color scheme is also quite nice with the red ferrule and logo against the black handle and bristles. The brush is on the short side though, but since I have smaller hands this wasn't much of a problem for me.

Revlon Photo Ready 3D Volume Mascara

I was on the search for this new mascara since I had dropped the wand of my Grow Luscious mascara onto my carpet and it picked up all sorts of lint and unpleasantness. Having heard good things about the new Photo Ready 3D mascara, I was curious about how much volume I would get with the brush it came with.

Revlon Colorstay Longwear Nail Enamel: Midnight

I wore Blue Slate for 8 days and it was about time to try a new shade. Considering the weather has been rather rainy and windy, my new color seems to match the climate.

There is definitely some green to Midnight making this blue more of a dark teal blue. At first I wanted to call it a navy blue, but compared directly to a navy color, the green in this polish stands out since a navy shade has more purple to it.I quite love my shades of teal, especially those that are on the bluer side so I really like this color. I'm also tempted to put Essie's Shine of the Times over this shade, but I haven't decided yet. Leave a comment if that's something you would like to see.

If you're the type of person that likes one coat nail polish, I'd  say this could be the shade for you. With the right amount of thickness it is possible to do so. I personally  prefer to apply thin coats of nail polish at a time so I had to use 2 coats to get full opacity.  I also used my trusty Sally Hansen Insta-Dri top coat over this varnish for the fact that the top coat just evens everything out for a nicer look.

As I stated earlier, I didn't actually wear my Blue Slate for 11 days, but for the 8 days I did the polish held up very well. I really put the polish to the test since I was more rough with my hands last week than usual. There was some even wearing away at the tips but absolutely no chipping. Granted, I did have a top coat in addition to the polish, but I have had polish chip despite my nice top coat and I wasn't as rough with my hands like I was while wearing the Revlon Colorstay varnish.

Revlon Colorstay Longwear Nail Enamel: Blue Slate

I was browsing after having some dim sum with my dad today and I found the new display for Revlon and I totally zoned in on the new nail polishes. I've been on the look out for a more muted blue so I was so excited to see that there were two of these shades and there was a BOGO 50% deal for Revlon nail products!

I'm currently wearing Blue Slate in the photo and I am in love with this color. It's a blue with some grey undertone to it. This polish is definitely appropriately named too since if you look up, slate blue, you'll find that this is one of the shades that show up. I think this is just such a sophisticated yet modern color to wear and did I tell you how I much admire this color? I also purchased another blue polish called Midnight that is a nice dark teal blue color.

Small Drugstore Makeup Haul

I really couldn't help myself with two Buy One Get One 50% Off sales going on at once for Revlon and Maybelline. My friend had wanted the Red Velvet lip butter so I picked up the Pink Truffle color for myself, which is why there's only one Revlon item in the photo.

I've been looking for a liquid liner pen for a while now and have been debating looking to Asian brands for it, but the price tag on those products are pretty steep. The Maybelline purchase was sort of a chain reaction since I really wanted to try the Dream Bouncy blush once I heard that the blush itself actually feels sort of bouncy or springy. So since I had one Maybelline product already I was deciding between the really hyped cream shadows or this liner. I'm really not a cream shadow person so I went with the liner.

Reviews will be up shortly for both Maybelline products as soon as I can play with them a bit. As for the Revlon lip butter in Pink Truffle, it really isn't as pink as I had expected it to be. It's more of a brownish pink and turns out to be a kind of "my lips but better" shade for me. However, I have my Clinique Honey for that already so I wasn't as excited as I was initially about this one.

Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters Part 2!

I think I went a bit overboard, but this time I did get these lip butters during the Revlon buy one get one 50% off sale. That counts for something doesn't it? Four of them are thanks to my mom since she's been stopping in on every Walgreens and CVS store she sees to look for these lip butters and would call me to read the names of the shades if they happen to be in stock and picked them up for me. So, thanks mom!

Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters

I have been so busy lately. By the time I get home, there definitely isn't any good natural light left for photographing. Anyways, between my last post and now, I was able to acquire 3 lip butters. My goal was to actually get the deeper colors and the reds, but I've been to at least 10 different Walgreens in San Francisco and only the lighter shades or the browner shades were left in the store. I'm definitely still on the lookout for them since I hear that these will be permanent, but I do want them sooner rather than later. I guess this same mentality is the reason all shades I'm searching for are snapped up so quickly!

FYI, I have since acquired 6 more lip butters and swatches can be found by clicking here: Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters Part 2!

First off, I have to say that these lip butters are as fantastic as all the hype brings you to believe. They are hydrating, pigmented, and they give you shine. There is no taste nor any scent, which is a major plus for me. As for staying power, I have no complaints really. They aren't advertised as long wearing so I'm not surprised at all that I need to reapply after my meal, besides that they last just fine for me. These lip butters are just that great and I highly recommend them.

Revlon Grow Luscious Mascara

I've been hearing quite a bit about this mascara and how it it's brush is comparable to the Diorshow's brush. Although I do think this is a very good mascara for a drugstore brand, it does fall a bit short when being compared to Diorshow. On it's own though, this product is a great deal for the quality.

For nearly over a week, I've been using this mascara everyday. I can't say much on whether it made my lashes any stronger than they were before, but it does give my lashes instant length and fullness. The formula is drier, which is a total plus for me because I have the type of eyes where the mascara can smudge under my eyes if I blink while the mascara is still wet on the lashes. Doesn't happen all the time, but is very frustrating when it does. It's definitely not as dry as the Diorshow or my new Bad Gal mascara, but it's dry enough to satisfy me. There is minor clumping, nothing a spoolie can't fix, but there is some. Overall, I have to say this mascara pleased me so much that I would choose it over my Clinique mascaras.
