Smitten Polish: Mint Chip

Today I have a delicious indie polish to talk about! The thought of buying indie polish has never crossed my mind before until I saw the swatch by KarenD on her blog, Frazzle and Aniploish. After that, I was obsessed with getting my hands on my own Mint Chip polish.

Smitten Polish is the brain child of blogger Noelie, of Noelie's Nails. Mint Chip is part of her Nommy Noms collection that include a couple of other dessert themed polishes. The genius of this particular version of mint chip for the nails is the fact that the glitter is more of a copper toned brown in a mint creme base. When the light hits it just right, you can see the glitter flash that copper color, otherwise it's just dark brown bits resembling chocolate chips. Having craved the real mint chip ice cream and caved, I do realize that the actual chocolate chips are much darker than the glitter used, but Noelie was just able to find that perfect balance between realistic imitation and charm.

Mint Chip contains both your traditional tiny round glitter and bigger hexagonal glitter. When applied with more than one layer, the minty green base overlaps the glitter creating that wonderful resemblance to ice cream with chocolate chips mixed in. Consequently, to achieve this effect, the formula is a bit thin and sheer. Since I preferred to apply no more than two coats of glitter to my nails, I started off with Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Mint Sorbet first and then proceeded with 2 coats of Mint Chip. To get the best distribution of the glitter that looks random, I suggest not cleaning the excess polish off the brush too well and do not press the brush so firmly on the nail or you'll be dragging the glitter all over. The overall formula of the polish is very impressive, going on smoothly and drying quickly.

Since this is essentially a glitter polish, removal was a bit of a chore. I was really glad I opted for only two layers of Mint Chip. Most of the polish came off rather easily, but I did have some areas that were rather stubborn. But it wasn't a nightmare though, just a little extra work than usual.

If you would like to have a cute and delicious looking manicure also, you can purchase your own bottle at Noelie's Etsy shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/SmittenPolish. She sells them for $9 a piece plus $3 shipping for the first bottle and any additional polishes will be only $0.50 each for shipping. I do know that she'll ship internationally, however I don't know the details. Her stock is bought quickly so I suggest checking out her blog for news on when she will restock.

  2. Hee--happy I could inspire you! :) Your swatches of this look so good--layering it over the mint base was an excellent idea I may have to copy next time I wear this (won't use up the indie so fast that way).
