Nyx Girls Nail Polish: Root

I totally jumped on the bandwagon and bought the Orly nail polish in Rage since the hype was that it was the rose gold shade. To be honest, I was a bit disappointed when I tried it because it looked more silvery with a very slight tint of pink to it. But as I was picking up a Nyx single eyeshadow, I decided to browse the small selection of Nyx Girls polishes and found this little gem.

Root is a copper toned rose foil. The base of this polish is a transparent pink and I can't even begin to figure out the shimmering flakes that make up this polish. But together the overall look is close to a rose gold shade and amazing. It took three coats to achieve full opacity, which is pretty standard for me, but the drying time was pretty fast. The application was also very smooth and even without much effort.

In direct sunlight.

As you can see in the photo above, the Nyx polish is more rosy in color while the Orly bottle is much paler. Once applied to the nail, Root's shine takes over and it becomes this wonderful rose gold-like color. Unfortunately, the photos weren't able to do Root complete justice since the shine affected how the photos turned out, but in person it looks even better, trust me.

Apparently, there are some other foil shades in the Nyx Girls line so I want to see if I can get my hands on those. So far, most foils I come across are either taupes or golds and I'd prefer less neutral shades.

  1. Pretty! The new WnW Chrome ones have all sorts of colors besides gold--they are a bit pricey for the size of bottle, though.

    1. Oh, I heard about those! I've been on the look out but haven't seen them in any of my stores...I haven't even seen those Bejeweled glitter polishes either from WnW. I'd pick up a few if I could find them.

I was able to pick up Orly's Ingenue today at my Sally's Beauty. I'm so excited, but a bit puzzled at why a couple of them made a sudden appearance on the permanent shelf with a "New" tag on it.

    2. Yeah, the way Sally's & Orly do that is odd--I get excited at the New and then take a closer look and think "but that's not new". I suppose it's good that they do bring back colors so people who missed them the first time can get them. Wish OPI and Essie would do that with some of their older ones.

  2. Nyx Girls nail polish has a few solid choices in terms of color. I should look into getting a few more bottles since they're so inexpensive.
